“Osorio will arrive on Sunday night or Monday morning and will start his mission as the new coach immediately,” Mansour told the club’s TV channel.

The 61-year old Osorio will be succeeding Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira who left his job after the team’s elimination from the African Champions League.

“Osorio has a strong CV. He guided Mexico in World Cup and managed to beat Germany. He also took the charge of Baraguay national team and won 17 titles in his country with different clubs,” Mansour said about the new coach.

“We hire the coach according to his reputation, but finally he could be lucky or not. Osorio was among a final three-man shortlist selected by the club’s technical committee with another German and Spanish coach,” he added.

Osorio has guided Mexico from 2015 to 2018 before taking Paraguay charge from 2018 to 2019.

At the club level, the Zamalek new coach, who started his managerial career in 2006, was in charge of various clubs including USA’s New York Red Bulls, Brazil’s São Paulo and Colombia’s Atlético Nacional.

Zamalek are struggling since the season start; sitting currently seventh in the league table with 33 points from 21 games. The Whites were also eliminated from the League Cup by NBE Club two weeks ago.

On Thursday, Zamalek have announced the collapse of talks with German coach, Heiko Herrlich, to lead the team, citing disagreement over the value of the penalty clause.

The club is currently guided by interim coach Medhat Abdelhady as who will lead the team in the upcoming match against NBE club on Sunday evening.
