He was also fined EGP 1,000,000 for his unsporting behavior.

“The club’s management received a letter from the Football Association which included decisions against Al-Ahly and first-team football player Mahmoud Kahraba. The dossier has been referred to the club’s legal committee to study the situation and submit a recommendation to the board ahead of its meeting on Wednesday,” a statement read on the club’s twitter account.

The 29-year-old was caught on camera chanting obscene chants against Zamalek after scoring the first goal in his side's 3-0 win over the rivals.

Ahly was also fined EGP 200,000 due to their supporters' behavior during past games in the Egyptian League.

According to regulations, both the player and the club have the right to appeal the sanctions within a ten-day period.

Kahraba, a former Zamalek player, was ordered by FIFA in August 2020 to pay a $2 million fine to Zamalek, in addition to five percent interest valid from 20 June 2019 to the actual payment day, after unilaterally breaching his contract with the club in the same year.

The decision was upheld by the International Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in March 2022.

Kahraba returned to action on January 11, 2023, after serving a six-month suspension for not paying the fine to Zamalek.

He has produced a string of strong displays with the team since then.
