Zamalek’s new coach Carlos Osorio
The White Knights' hopes for a victory in Juan Carlos Osario's debut as head coach with the team were dashed after the Arab Contractors scored an injury-time equaliser to end the game in a 2-2 draw.
“We started the game in good form and we were creating scoring opportunities," the 61-year old Colombian tactician said in the press conference after the game.
“The players implemented our strategy perfectly and we had the upper hand," the former Mexico and Paraguay coach who took over last week, succeeding Portuguese tactician Jesualdo Ferreira.
"The injury of both Ahmed “Zizo” Sayed and Mostafa Shalabi created difficulties for us and we received two goals from silly defensive errors."
"Despite all that, we will prove that we are a strong and good team,” he stressed.
After the draw, the two-time defending champions slipped further away from the title race.
They now lie fourth in the table with 40 points, 13 behind leaders Ahly, who have played three games fewer.
“I won’t talk about every player in the media since players need to develop their performance in the pitch itself.” Osario stressed.
“Every game needs a three-day preparation period. And, actually, I only worked two days with the team. We need more time to reach harmony,” he concluded.
Zamalek still hope to finish second in the league table to secure a Champions League spot next term.
