The decision was announced by the EPL on Monday, following the 26th matchday of the league.
El-Shennawy was shown a red card by referee Tarek Magdy after striking Hakam in the face while not challenging for the ball, two minutes before the final whistle.
The EPL's decision means that El-Shennawy will miss Ahly's next three league games.
The 34-year old keeper has also been handed a "hefty fine" by the club for his conduct.
Second-choice keeper Ali Lotfi, who replaced El-Shennawy in the 2-0 win over Smouha, is expected to stand between the sticks in the upcoming matches.
Ahly are in the driving seat of the Egyptian Premier League table with 53 points. They are four points ahead of runners-up Future FC, who have played three games more.
However, El-Shennawy will be available for the Cairo derby clash against Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup on 5 May at the UAE's Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium.
