The match between domestic league champions Zamalek and Egypt Cup winners Ahly will be held in the United Arab Emirates on Friday 5 May.

This will be El-Bana's second Cairo derby, after previously officiating the 2021 Egyptian league match that saw Ahly win 2-1.

The 36-year-old has been an international referee since 2014 and is regarded as one of the best referees in Egyptian football.

Vitor Melo Pereira, the head of the referees committee in the Egyptian Football Association, has expressed confidence in Egyptian referees’ abilities, having previously assigned an Egyptian referee to officiate the Egypt Cup final between Ahly and Pyramids FC earlier this month.

Despite Pyramids FC's initial objections, the appointed referee Amin Omar produced a strong performance during the final, which saw Ahly win 2-1 after extra time.

Ahly have a record of 12 Egyptian Super Cup while Zamalek won it four times.
