Last season's Egyptian Premier League champions Zamalek were scheduled to face Egypt Cup winners Ahly in the Super Cup in Abu Dhabi on Friday. However, Mansour revealed in a YouTube video that Zamalek would not be travelling to play in the match.
Mansour cites various grievances with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) as the reason for Zamalek's refusal to participate, including the EFA's decision to appoint Egyptian referees for the Super Cup and the EFA disciplinary committee punishing him and Zamalek.
"We will not participate in this (farce)...after the Football Association decided to hold the Super Cup with Egyptian referees, then we lose another new tournament like in the basketball final," Mansour said.
Mansour apologised to fans who had booked tickets for the Super Cup and said Zamalek are willing to play a friendly match against the UAE league champions on the same date if invited.
The EFA said they would contact Zamalek to confirm their decision not to participate. If Zamalek officially withdraw, the EFA will invite Egypt Cup runners-up Pyramids to play against Ahly in the Super Cup according to tournament regulations, EFA board member Ihab Al-Komy told local media.
