Senegalese winger Ibrahima Ndiaye, who scored the only goal in Zamalek's 2-1 defeat against Ismaily, earlier this week, found the net again to secure the winner in Thursday's match.

The victory helped Zamalek maintain their fourth place in the league table with 46 points.

The club is hoping to secure a continental competition berth as they have virtually lost their chances of winning the domestic league.

The champions of the past two editions are seven points behind leaders Ahly, who still have six matches in hand, but they are only four points off second-placed Future FC, who have 51 points.

The game saw many goalscoring opportunities for both sides, but the lack of finishing skills prevented any goals until Ndiaye's strike just before halftime.

In the second half, Aswan went on the attack to level the score, but they failed to convert their chances.

Meanwhile, Zamalek players missed several opportunities to double their lead and the referee cancelled two goals after VAR review.

Zamalek will face Dakhleya on Monday.
