Zamalek's pursuit of a Champions League spot suffered a setback as they were held to a 1-1 draw by relegation-threatened Dakhleya on Monday at Suez Stadium.

A late penalty converted by Samir Fekri canceled out Seifeddine Jaiziri's 21st-minute goal, leading to another underwhelming performance by the two-time defending champions.

The result leaves the White Knights in the fourth place with 47 points from 28 games, trailing second-placed Pyramids FC by five points, who have played two fewer matches.

On the other hand, Dakhleya, fighting for survival, displayed resilience but remain in the danger zone with 28 points from 29 games.

Wasteful Dakhleya

The hosts started strongly, creating a couple of scoring opportunities, only to be denied by Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhy and the post.

Zamalek's first notable chance came in the 21st minute, resulting in the decisive goal of the first half. Mostafa Shalabi played a short corner to Mahmoud "Shikabala" Abdel-Razek, whose cross found Jaziri unmarked at the far post to head home the opener.

Dakhleya continued their pressing and Mahmoud Talaat missed the target from inside the box, while Zamalek defender Hossam Abdel-Meguid made a goal-line clearance to deny Ali Zahdi's attempt.

In the second half, substitute Rasheed Ahmed broke free but narrowly missed the target with his shot.

With the threat growing, Zamalek coach Juan Carlos Osorio introduced Mohamed Tarek and Sayed Abdallah to restore balance to the team.

The tactical adjustment paid off as the team regained composure and launched attacks. Jaziri had a goal disallowed for offside, and Zizo missed a golden opportunity to extend his team's lead when his penalty kick struck the crossbar.

In the 84th minute, Ahmed managed to evade his marker but was tripped by keeper Sobhi inside the box, resulting in a penalty. Samir Fekri calmly converted the spot kick, securing a well-deserved draw for his team.
