Ahly's goalkeeper, Mohamed El Shennawy, expressed on Sunday that their victory in the CAF Champions League final served as retribution for their loss to Wydad in last year's ultimate showdown.

Ahly claimed their 11th Champions League title by securing a 1-1 draw against Wydad in the second leg of the final held in Casablanca, resulting in a 3-2 aggregate win over the Moroccan side.

"We experienced injustice last year, and that is why we were highly motivated to come here and clinch the title," El Shennawy told beIN Sports following the game.

Wydad had emerged victorious in the previous season, securing their third Champions League title by defeating Ahly 2-0 in a single-game final held in Morocco.

However, this year, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) reinstated the two-legged final format, with Ahly taking a 2-1 lead in the first leg held in Cairo last week.

"We were determined to come here and score, and as you can see, every player gave their best effort," El Shennawy stated.

"Despite the inquiries about any superstition associated with playing in this venue, we, as Ahly, do not dwell on the past. Today, we emerged victorious, and we will celebrate. Tomorrow, we will shift our focus to the league and aim to secure another trophy," El Shennawy added.

Having already clinched four titles this season, Ahly's official crowning as league champions is only a matter of time.

The Red Devils currently occupy the second position in the table with 62 points, trailing Pyramids FC by a mere two points, although Pyramids FC have played six more games.
