Since joining Ahly in September 2022, 62-year-old Swiss coach Marcel Koller has led the team to win two Egypt Super Cups, the Egypt Cup, and the CAF Champions League.

Ahly are currently at the top of the Egyptian Premier League table with 65 points, followed by Pyramids FC, their closest rival, who have played five more games due to Ahly's participation in the CAF Champions League.

Ahly require 12 points out of 27 to secure their 43rd Egyptian League championship.

“I am very happy for the achievements that I did with the team as I arrived for this reason. I reached the best moment in my career,” Koller said in an interview with Al-Ahram Sports magazine.

“We suffered a lot and worked hard to reach these achievements so I thank all people who were involved in these achievements,” he added.

Ahly clinched their 11th Champions League title with a 1-1 draw against Wydad in the second leg of the final in Casablanca, leading to a 3-2 aggregate victory over the Moroccan team.

“After the first leg-game, I had a sad impression as they feared repeating previous bad scenarios, but I believed in my team and our ability to win the trophy,” Koller added.

“It was a dream for me to win a continental title. Any ambitious coach always dreams of reaching such an achievement as I consider it the biggest achievement in my career,” the Swiss coach said.

“The players made the saga, and we won’t give up winning all the championships,” Koller said.

“I thank all Ahly fans for their support and promise to continue our work and fight to repeat the festivals,” The Ahly tactician concluded.

Under Koller's leadership, Austria's national team qualified for their second Euro tournament in 2016, but they finished at the bottom of their group, which included Hungary, Iceland, and eventual champions Portugal, with just one point.

Koller won the Swiss League title with St Gallen in 2000, the Swiss Cup with Basel in 2019, and coached FC Cologne and VfL Bochum in the German Bundesliga.
