“Negotiations started between all parties [the two clubs and the player] through the past weeks until reaching an agreement over all the details,” Al-Wakrah’s spokesman Mohamed bin Fahd was quoted as saying by the club’s official website.

“The player will undergo medical scans after arriving in Doha within the coming hours and after the results we will announce the date of signing the contract and unveiling the player in a press conference,” he added without disclosing any further details regarding the deal.

Recent reports in Egyptian media estimated the deal’s value at around $3.25 million.

Since joining Ahly in 2019 from league rivals Enppi, the 28-year-old Egyptian international has established himself as one of the team’s key players.

Over his five-year career with Ahly, Fathi scored 14 goals in 152 appearances in all competitions.

During the current season, the player has scored four goals in 34 appearances with the Cairo giants in different competitions so far.

Fathi was instrumental in helping Ahly win three titles this season: the 2021/2022 Egypt Cup, the 2022 Egyptian Super Cup and the African Champions League.

Ahly is also close to clinching their 43rd league title as they currently lead the competition with 69 points from 27 games with five matches still in hand.

Fathi has scored just one goal in 28 appearances so far with the Pharaohs since making his international debut in 2019.

The two-time winners of the Qatar Stars League [Qatar’s top level football league] Al-Wakrah SC ended the competition this season at the fourth place with 39 points, 12 behind champions Al Duhail SC.
