The Red Devils have been solid at the back, keeping a clean sheet in their last 10 Egyptian Premier League games since conceding a goal in March when they defeated Arab Contractors 2-1 on the 17th matchday.
Thanks to Percy Tau’s 50th-minute goal, Ahly narrowly defeated Ismaily last Wednesday to increase their points tally to 72, putting them five points clear of second-placed Pyramids. Ahly only need five more points from their remaining six games to secure the title.
Coach Marcel Koller, who already led the team to win two Egypt Super Cup titles, the Egypt Cup, and the CAF Champions League, expressed his disappointment with his side’s offensive performance against Ismaily, despite creating many chances.
Meanwhile, Ittihad of Alexandria, currently in eighth place in the league table with 42 points, are determined to end their winless run against Ahly, as their last victory over the Cairo giants was in October 2018. The two teams have met in eight league games since then, with Ahly winning seven and one ending in a draw.
In the reverse fixture, Ahly beat Ittihad 3-0, with goals from Percy Tau, Yasser Ibrahim, and right-back Akram Tawfik, who is currently injured.
