Ahly cemented their lead over second-place Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Premier League table with a 2-0 win over Ittihad of Alexandria to inch closer to bagging another trophy.

Just ten minutes into the postponed game from the 21st matchday at Borg El-Arab stadium on Saturday, Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul opened the scoring for Ahly with a penalty kick.

Ahly’s winger Mahmoud 'Kahraba' Abdel-Moneim doubled the lead in the 13th minute with a swift goal after receiving a brilliant assist from South African winger Percy Tau inside the area.

With the win, the Red Devils now sit atop the table with 75 points, a comfortable eight points ahead of second-placed Pyramids FC, who have played two more matches.

The recently crowned African Champions League winners need just three points from a possible 24 to secure their 43rd Egyptian League title.

With the loss, Ittihad of Alexandria failed to move up the table and remain in 8th place with 42 points after playing 31 matches so far.

From start to finish!

Ahly dominated the game from the start to the finish.

Kahraba and Tau missed several early chances.

Winger Hussien El-Shahat was awarded the penalty kick just after being tackled while controlling the ball inside the area.

Ittihad of Alexandria had their own opportunities to score through Sabri Rahil, Khaled El-Ghandour, and Mohamed Mahmoud, but Ahly's defenders were able to keep them at bay.

In the second half, Ahly coach Marcel Koller made several substitutions to rest key players ahead of their upcoming derby clash against fourth-placed Zamalek, who have 56 points.

Ali Maaloul and Alio Dieng were replaced by Khaled Abdel-Fattah and Marwan Attia, respectively.

Ittihad of Alexandria's hopes of a comeback were thwarted when right-back Khaled El-Ghandour was shown a red card after a dangerous attack against substitute Khaled Abdel-Fattah.

Ahly's next match will be against their arch-rivals, Zamalek, in a postponed game from matchday 31 on Thursday.
