Zamalek have declined an offer to transfer their highly performing winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed to the Saudi League's Al-Shabab, as confirmed by a statement released by the club on Thursday.

“The club's management refused to part ways with winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed during the current summer transfer window, despite receiving an offer from Saudi team Al-Shabab to acquire the player,” Zamalek said in a statement.

The statement clarified that Ahmed Mortada Mansour, a member of Zamalek's board, had been contacted by Zizo's father seeking his permission of the Saudi bid. Mansour, however, opted not to go through with the transaction.

Officials from Zamalek have stated that they are very interested in keeping the player on the team for the remainder of his contract.

The 27-year-old winger's contract with Zamalek will now run until 2025.

The statement also denied media claims that Zamalek had agreed to sell the player for $6 million.

Zizo, who made 200 appearances for Zamalek and contributed 53 assists and 65 goals, has been in excellent form.

He joined Zamalek in the 2019 season and was recognised as the league's top scorer in the 2021/22 season, helping the team win the league championship in both of those years.

In addition, Zizo was crucial to Zamalek's victories, which included winning the Confederations Cup in 2018/19, the Africa Super Cup in 2019/20, the Egyptian Super Cup in 2019/2020 and the Egypt Cup trophy in 2020/21.

Zizo has played for Egypt on the international stage in 29 games, scoring two goals.

Zizo started playing football in 2013 with the Wadi Degla U23 team. He then travelled through Europe, spending time with Lierse SK in Belgium and Nacional in Portugal before signing with Moreirense in Portugal.
