Defender Zineddine Belaid calmly converted a penalty in the 42nd minute, sealing the victory for USM Alger, winners of the CAF Confederation Cup, against the reigning CAF Champions League winners, Ahly.

“You should not waste a lot of scoring chances in such a big game. I will have a harsh talk with my players regarding this issue,” Koller said in the press conference after the game.

“We were denied a clear penalty in the first half. No one can guarantee that early substitutions ensure winning the match,” the Swiss coach added.

Egyptian Premier League champions Ahly are yet to start their new season and according to Koller the loss to USM Alger is a lesson for his team.

“We should correct our mistakes especially wasting scoring chances. It is good to lose at the start of the season to learn from our mistakes,” the Swiss coach added.

USM Alger clinched their first-ever Super Cup title, while Ahly, the Cairo giants, were aiming to retain the title for the ninth time.
