The Whites, who won the league title last time in the 2021/2022 season and ended last season in the third place, will have no other choice but to win to regain some confidence after ending the past season without a single trophy.
Also, the team needs to overcome the miserable start of the season after losing 2-0 against Arta Solar of Djibouti on Saturday in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup round of 32.
Moreover, Zamalek is suffering from a managerial crisis as the club is currently led by an interim committee following the resignation of the elected board due to successive financial crises. A win against strong opponent like Pyramids FC could provide a little relief amid the tensioned atmosphere that surrounds the football team.
Banning the club from registering new players during the summer transfer window due to late financial obligations to former players added more woes for Zamalek’s technical staff led by Colombian coach Juan Osorio who couldn’t boost the team with the needed signings.
On the technical level, Zamalek will have to play without key trio Ahmed Fatouh, Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed and Tunisian striker Seif Jaziri who will miss the game due to different reasons.
On the other side, the big-spending team Pyramids FC is also targeting a strong start of the season after spending heavily in the summer transfer market with an eye on both the domestic league and the African Champions League titles this season.
Pyramids FC kicked off the season on Sunday; getting a first-leg advantage by holding APR to a 0-0 draw in Rwanda during the round of 32 clash in the CAF Champions League.
Against Zamlaek, Pyramids will be missing right-back Mohamed Chibi and midfielder Ahmed Tawfik due to suspension, meanwhile, newly-signed playmaker Mohamed ‘Bobo’ Reda and left-back Mohamed Hamdy are confirmed to be absent due to injuries.
Veteran playmaker Abdallah El-Said and classy winger Ramadan Sobhi who missed Sunday’s game with APR, are included in the team's list for Zamalek clash after recovering from their injuries.
Pyramids FC, who still eyeing their first-ever trophy, ended the Egyptian Premier League last season as runners-up.
