Ittihad of Alexandria President Mohamed Moselhi announced that Angola striker Mabululu had already signed a three-year contract extension with the club, amid international interest in the player for his impressive performances in the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

During the continental tournament, the 31-year-old Mabululu caught the attention of fans as he scored three goals in five appearances for the Angola national team.

"Mabululu delivered an outstanding performance with Angola during the ongoing Cup of Nations, and he has also shone with us over the past three years," stated Moselhi during a television programme.

Mabululu, who joined Ittihad of Alexandria in September 2021 from the Angolan team de Agosto, has scored 36 goals in 65 appearances across all competitions. In the current season, he has netted six goals in seven appearances.

“We have received interest from Saudi and Libyan teams to sign Mabululu. His Portuguese agent informed us about an offer from a non-Arabian team, but we are awaiting official offers," Moselhi added.

"I believe Mabululu will stay with us until the end of the ongoing season, as we successfully extended his contract for three years before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations," said the Ittihad of Alexandria president.

Ittihad currently holds the third position in the Egyptian Premier League table, having accumulated 18 points from nine games played so far this season.

On Tuesday, the Alexandria-based team is set to face Ceramica Cleopatra in the semifinals of the Egyptian League Cup.

"I made every effort to include Mabululu in the crucial match against Ceramica Cleopatra, but his country requested that the players be retained to honour them after their performance in the Nations Cup," explained Moselhi.

Mabululu played a pivotal role in helping Angola reach the AFCON quarterfinals, although the team was eliminated after a 1-0 loss to Nigeria.
