The 31-year-old El-Zanfaly joined Dakhleya in August 2023 from NBE Club on a free transfer, having begun his professional career with Wadi Degla before representing Aswan SC and Ittihad of Alexandria.

In the current season, El-Zanfaly has made 11 appearances for Dakhleya in the Egyptian Premier League, conceding 15 goals while keeping five clean sheets.

Initially, Ahly were reportedly close to signing international keeper Mohamed Abo Gabal on loan until the end of the ongoing season.

However, the club ultimately opted for El-Zanfaly.

El-Shennawy, 35, is set to be sidelined for three months as he recovers from laparoscopic shoulder surgery in Germany.

The shoulder injury was sustained during Egypt's recent 2-2 draw against Cape Verde in the final round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage.
