Gomes, who signed a one-and-a-half-year contract to replace interim coach Moatamed Gamal, was unveiled at a press conference along with the club’s new signings.

“I am happy to be here, first of all when we talk about Zamalek there is a great passion where we remember the full stadiums and the fans who push the players and this is what I want to see again,” the Portuguese said.

“I salute the efforts made and promise the fans to make them happy and also the board of directors and we will produce a good team by integrating the old and new players,” he added.

He said he was confident he could improve Zamalek’s performance and results.

“In the kitchen, the cook needs a final touch of salt, we have good elements and we will give them this touch,” he said.

“But I need the help of the administration and I will bring out everything that the players have to win the championship,.” he concluded.

Gomes, 53, has coached several teams in his homeland, including Pacos de Ferreira, Uniao de Leiria, Rio Ave, Maritimo, and Chaves.

He has also had stints in Hungary, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, England, and Spain.
