The big-spending club didn’t disclose any details regarding the deal.

The 54-year-old Jurcic will be succeeding Portuguese coach Jaime Pacheco who was fired from his job two days ago.

Pacheco, 63, took charge of the team in January 2023, with high expectations of leading the big-spending club to win titles. However, the team's performance fell short of the anticipated success, despite having a talented roster.

Jurcic has been a free agent since departing his last job at UAE’s club Al-Nasr in February 2021.

The former Croatian international Jurcic started his managerial career in 2005; guiding a host of clubs including Pula, Dinamo Zagreb, Lokomotiva Zagreb, Maribor, Adanaspor, Saudi side Al Nassr, Baniyas and finally UAE’s Al-Nasr.

He also worked as the assistant coach of Croatia’s national team in a short stint back in 2012 and also worked as head of youth player development with the Saudi Football Federation in 2017.

His prominent achievements at the club level were with Dinamo Zagreb after winning the Croatian league title three times { 2008–09, 2009–10, 2012–13}, the Croatian Cup in 2009, and also the Croatian Supercup in 2013. He also shined with UAE’s Al-Nasr; guiding the team to win the Emirati League Cup in the 2019–20 season.

Pyramids journey with Pacheco

In the previous season, Pyramids FC finished second in the league standings, however, they faced setbacks, losing both the Egypt Cup final and the Egyptian Super Cup.

Their hopes were further dashed when they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the Confederation Cup.

This season, the club's struggles continued, as they finished third in the revamped Egyptian Super Cup and currently find themselves at the bottom of their group in the CAF Champions League.

They were also eliminated from the Egyptian League Cup quarterfinals last week, suffering a 3-1 defeat against Masry.

Pyramids FC currently lies fourth in the league table with 17 points, trailing leaders ZED FC by two points who played two matches more.
