Zamalek's El-Wensh undergoes successful knee surgery

Zamalek's defender Mahmoud 'El-Wensh' Hamdi underwent surgery to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL in his knee, the Cairo giants announced on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old sustained his injury during his team's training last week. El-Wensh has suffered a knee ligament injury three times.

The last one occurred in May 2023 during a league game against Ismaily. 

El-Wensh, who joined Zamalek from Tala'ea El-Gaish in 2016, has been a key player for the Cairo giants, contributing to their success in numerous competitions.

He helped Zamalek win the Egyptian Premier League twice, the Egypt Cup three times, the Egyptian Super Cup twice, the CAF Super Cup, and the CAF Confederation Cup.

He has also been capped 26 times, scoring two goals.
