In an interview with On Time Sports Radio, EFA President Gamal Allam said the EFA received an official notification from the Anti-Doping Organization indicating Sobhi's drug test returned positive.

"We have informed Pyramids FC about the positive result and the club has the right to appeal the decision within 10 days," Allam stated.

Sobhi, 27, has been one of the country's more prolific wingers in the last 10 years.

He rose to stardom with his alma mater, Ahly, where he played from 2014 to 2016 before joining Stoke City FC in 2016.

He signed for Huddersfield Town in 2018, returning to Ahly on loan in 2019 before joining Pyramids FC in 2020.

He played for Egypt in U18, U20, and U23, winning the U23 African Cup with the Pharaohs in 2019.

He has featured in the Pharoahs' first-team squad since 2015, playing in the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

According to Allam, a second sample will be collected from Sobhi before the EFA takes disciplinary action.

He added: "It's also possible that Ramadan Sobhi unknowingly ingested a banned substance through medication," Allam added.
