Substitute winger Ahmed 'Zizo' Sayed made a significant impact off the bench to propel Zamalek to a 2-1 victory against compatriots Modern Future FC at Cairo Stadium.
Thus, the White Knights got a first-leg advantage in the Confederation Cup quarterfinals.
“We deserve the victory despite our faults. We missed a lot of scoring chances, and I am not happy with the performance,” the Portuguese coach said in a press conference after the game.
“I wasn’t happy during the break because of the first-half errors. In the second half, we needed much energy in the attacking line. So, I decided to depend on Seifeddine Jaziri,” he added.
The second leg of the quarterfinal will also take place at Cairo Stadium next Sunday.
According to Gomes, Zamalek can proceed to the farthest point in the domestic competition.
“Zamalek can win the Confederation Cup title, and the players can do their best in the coming period,” the coach concluded.
