The reigning champions, currently languishing in 11th place with 24 points from 12 games, are 14 points adrift of leaders Pyramids FC, though with five games in hand.

Currently languishing in 11th place with 24 points from 12 matches, the Red Devils are eager to reverse their fortunes. Despite being 14 points adrift of league leaders Pyramids FC, Ahly still have five games in hand, offering a glimmer of hope for their title defence.

Under the guidance of Marcel Koller, Ahly have experienced setbacks in recent fixtures, with wins against Zed FC and Ismaily offset by defeats to Zamalek and NBE Club, as well as a draw with Enppi, though they managed to reach the CAF Champions League final for the fifth time in a row.

The Red Devils’ performance has been hampered by a spate of injuries, but the return of key players like veteran defender Yasser Ibrahim and Malian midfielder Aliou Dieng is expected to provide a much-needed boost to their lineup.

Gouna FC, meanwhile, sit comfortably in sixth place with 28 points from 19 games. The Red Sea-based team, who returned to Egypt's top-flight this season, will be buoyed by their recent win over Ittihad of Alexandria and will be keen to pull off an upset against Ahly.

Alaa Abdelaal's men already have the scalp of another giant on their belt, having defeated Zamalek 3-2 back in March.

A positive result against Ahly would further underline their intent to challenge the established order in the Egyptian top flight.

In the reverse game, Ahly found themselves locked in a 1-1 draw, as French striker Antony Modeste broke the deadlock, only for Moroccan midfielder Ahmed Belhadji to level the score from the penalty spot. Notably, Belhadji returned to Ceramica Cleopatra after a loan stint with Gouna FC.
