Defending champions Ahly extended their winning streak to three games in the Egyptian Premier League with a commanding 4-1 victory against Ittihad of Alexandria on Tuesday in Cairo.

The match saw Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali, 27, convert a penalty in the 27th minute, followed by goals from Reda Slim in the 32nd minute and Omar Kamal just before halftime, in a dominat first half display by the Red Devils. Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel-Moneim completed the rout with a goal just past the hour mark. Ittihad's consolation came from Ghanaian winger Benjamin Boateng in the 58th minute.

Ahly's recent success comes after a challenging April with two defeats against NBE Club, 4-3, and Zamalek, 2-1, and a 2-2 draw against Enppi. They have bounced back in May with victories over Ismaily, 2-1, Gouna, 3-0, and now Ittihad.

This victory lifts Ahly to seventh place in the table with 30 points from 14 games, 11 points behind leaders Pyramids FC who have played four games more. Ittihad of Alexandria remains sixth with 32 points but has played 21 games.

South African winger Percy Tau and Tunisian full back Ali Maaloul were dropped from the game, among five changed made by Ahly coach Marcel Koller who wants to keep his team fresh ahead of the African Champions League final on 18 May.

Ahly dominated early on, with chances from Hussein El Shahat and Abou Ali denied by Ittihad's goalkeeper El Mahdy Soliman. Abou Ali eventually broke the deadlock with a precise penalty after a foul on Omar Kamal in the area.

Five minutes later Moroccan winger Slim scored a brilliant curling shot from outside the box to double his team's leader.

In the 42nd minute Kamal cut onto his right foot and sent a powerful strike in the top corner to give Ahly a 3-0 lead at the break.

Ittihad attempted a comeback with four changes at halftime, resulting in Boateng's goal in the 58th minute.

However, Ahly capitalized on their opponent's defensive gaps, with Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel-Moneim converting a penalty to secure the win after a foul on Karim Fouad in the box.

Ittihad of Alexandria ended the game with 10 men on the pitch as Angolan striker Mabululu was sent off in the 88th minute.
