The 42-year-old Tunisian coach, who won two African titles with the Tunisian side Esperance in 2018 and 2019, hailed the victory as crucial despite conceding a late goal.

"I congratulate all the players on the great match they presented," Chaabani told Al-Montakhab newspaper.

"For us, the important thing was to win the match at home," Chaabani added.

"I said before the match that it would be difficult and strong but we achieved what was required," he said.

Zamalek needs a victory with a single goal to lift the trophy.

RS Berkane are targeting a third Confederation Cup title after winning in 2020 and 2022.

Meanwhile, Zamalek hope to repeat their 2019 success against the same opponent.
