The Egyptian football team clinched their second Confederation Cup championship by defeating RS Berkane of Morocco in the finals.

Zamalek claimed the title on the away goal rule, with the aggregate score standing at 2-2, after beating the Moroccan side 1-0 in the second leg of the final in Cairo on Sunday and losing the first leg 2-1 in Morocco.

"Winning the trophy may help us improve in the league," Gomes stated during the post-game press conference.

"We need to focus on enhancing our performance in the upcoming period," he added.

Zamalek occupy the 13th position in the Egyptian Premier League table with 24 points, after playing 15 games this season.

They have six games in hand due to their participation in the continental Confederation Cup.

"I am delighted to work with Zamalek as I am under contract with the team," affirmed the Portuguese coach.

African Super Cup aspirations

Zamalek have secured a spot in the African Super Cup to face the CAF Champions League title winner, following their victory in the secondary continental tournament.

Moreover, Egypt's Ahly managed to secure a goalless draw against Tunisian Esperance in the first leg of the prestigious tournament final, with the second leg scheduled to take place in Cairo on Saturday to determine the champion.

When asked about his preference between facing Ahly or Esperance in the African Super Cup, Gomes said: "I would prefer to win the African Super Cup against any team."

"Securing the title is the most important thing. The coach of Esperance is a Portuguese friend, and Ahly is a big team with an esteemed coach," added the Zamalek coach.
