Ahly winger El-Shahat handed 1-year suspended prison term, 5-year sports ban for El-Chibi slap

Ahly winger Hussein El-Shahat was sentenced by the Nasr City Misdemeanor Court to a one-year suspended prison term and fined EGP 100,000 for slapping Pyramids FC right back Mohamed El-Chibi during a league game last year.

The misdemeanor court also banned the 31-year-old international for five years from any "sports activities."

The sentence can be appealed. Ahly and the player have not commented on the verdict yet.

The case went to court as the El-Chibi and Pyramids FC were dissatisfied by the sanctions imposed by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) following the Moroccan player claimed "huge physical, financial, and moral damages" due to the widely shared video showng the slap.

El-Chibi, 31, accused El-Shahat of slapping, insulting, intimidating, and threatening physical harm in front of millions of Egyptian and Arab audiences.

The incident took place on 23 July 2023 after Ahly's 3-0 defeat at the 30 June Stadium.

Afterward, Ahly released a statement denouncing all the slap and fined El-Shahat.

Immediately after the game, El-Shahat apologized to El-Chibi in person in a video footage that was circulated on social media.

The EFA also handed El Shahat a two-game suspension as well as EGP 20,000 fine.

Ahly previously lodged a complaint with the EFA against El-Chibi for taking sports disputes to civil courts, in violation of FIFA rules.

Since joining Ahly in January, El-Shahat has been a key member of the team winning a 15 titles including four Champions League titles and three league titles.
