The incident unfolded five minutes into the second half of the match, corresponding to the 28th round of the league, as thick smoke engulfed the venue as a fire erupted inside the cable control room.
In response, fire trucks rushed to the scene in an attempt to control the flames, and ambulances were on standby in case of any injuries.
Upon being informed by stadium security that the damaged electrical tower's lighting could not be restored, match officials decided to abandon the game with the score tied 1-1.
The Egyptian Pro League (EPL) subsequently issued an official statement confirming the cancellation.
"The Smouha vs Pyramids FC match has been canceled due to the fire that broke out in Alexandria Stadium," the EPL stated.
"The Competitions Committee of the Egyptian Pro League awaits reports from the match referee, the fourth official, and the Alexandria Stadium management," the statement continued.
"The EPL will announce the final decision after the conclusion of the league's 28th matchday games," it concluded.
Pyramids FC currently hold the top spot in the league standings with 62 points from 25 games, enjoying a comfortable 14-point lead over second-placed Ahly, who still have five games in hand.
Smouha, on the other hand, occupy the seventh position with 39 points from 26 games.
