Maaloul underwent surgery in May to repair a partial tear in the tendon, which had forced him out of action since sustaining the injury during the goalless draw against Esperance de Tunis in the first leg of the Champions League final.

"I suffered a challenging injury at a crucial time, but I am progressing well, and I will be back soon," Maaloul stated in a late-night interview with a Tunisian radio station on Saturday.

Although he couldn't specify the exact date of his return, the Tunisian star expressed his anticipation of resuming play after two months.

The future of the 34-year-old, whose contract with the club expires this summer, remains uncertain.

"Discussions about extending my contract took place after the injury, but the appropriate time for that decision will come," Maaloul commented.

Having joined Ahly in the summer of 2016, the Tunisian star played a pivotal role during his eight-year tenure, contributing 51 goals and 83 assists in 281 appearances with the Red Devils.
