Young forward Ahmed "Esho" Abdel-Rahim gave Zamalek the lead in the 79th minute, but Mohamed Hamdy Zaki, who came on as a second-half substitute, equalized for Talae El-Geish in injury time.
However, neither team could find a winner in extra time, forcing a shootout that Talae El-Geish ultimately dominated.
With the victory, Talae El-Geish will face Ismaily in the quarterfinals after the coastal-city's side advanced to the last eight with a comfortable 2-0 win over Smouha FC earlier on Wednesday.
