Pyramids FC, a rising powerhouse in Egyptian football, are eager to break their silverware jinx after falling short in four consecutive cup finals.
The club, owned by Emirati businessman Salem Al-Shamsi, lost to Zamalek in the 2019 Egypt Cup final, and to arch-rivals Ahly in both the 2022 Egypt Cup final and the 2023 Egyptian Super Cup. They were also defeated in the 2020 Confederation Cup final against RS Berkane.
Pyramids FC, who have estbalished themselves as a rising powehouse in Egyptian football, have consistently finished in the top three of the Egyptian Premier League since their rebranding in 2019.
The Egyptian Premier League runners-up advanced to the final after a dramatic 1-1 draw against Masry, followed by a tense 4-3 victory in a penalty shootout on Tuesday.
Led by Croatian coach Krunoslav Jurčić, the Pyramids squad boasts key players such as Ramadan Sobhi and Fagrie Lakay, who are expected to play pivotal roles in the final.
In contrast, ZED FC, a rookie team promoted to the Egyptian Premier League for the first time in the 2023-2024 season, will look to create another milestone by winning the Egypt Cup at Pyramids' expense.
Under the guidance of Egyptian tactician Magdy Abdel-Aaty, ZED FC have defied the odds to reach the final, making them a dark horse in the competition.
Their journey in the competition has been marked by gritty performances, including a 1-0 semifinal victory over top-tier side Ismaily on Tuesday.
Finishing 7th in the league, ZED FC will hope to capitalize on their underdog status and cause a major upset.
One thing is sure, history will be made on Friday night.
