Despite securing the lead on two separate occasions, Masry suffered a 3-2 loss to hosts Al Hilal in the first-leg face-off in Benina.

Masry earned a slot in the CAF Confederation Cup after securing a fourth-place finish in the Egyptian League last season.

On the other side, Al Hilal advanced to the second preliminary round following a commanding 5-1 aggregate triumph over Uhamiaji FC of Zanzibar in the first preliminary round.

Ali Maher, Masry's coach, is counting on his new key acquisitions, including goalkeeper Mahmoud Hamdi, midfielder Mohamed Makhlouf, forward Karim Bambo, defenders Mohamed Hashim and Khaled Sobhi, to overcome the Libyan side.
