Ahly had initiated their continental campaign with a dominant 3-0 win over Gor Mahia FC at the Nyayo National Stadium in Kenya last week, sealing a comprehensive 6-0 aggregate triumph.
Towering defender, Rami Rabia, set the tone for Ahly's victory by breaking the deadlock just 20 minutes into the match with a commanding header from close range, courtesy of an excellent setup by the newly acquired Moroccan left-back, Yahia Attiyat Allah.
Palestinian striker Wessam Abou Ali further extended Ahly's lead in the 54th minute, capitalizing on another precise assist from Attiyat Allah.
Substitute winger Taher Mohamed Taher scored the third goal for Ahly with a powerful strike during injury time to bring a jubilant conclusion for the Reds in Cairo.
Leveraging their home advantage in the return leg, they controlled the game, though they missed several scoring opportunities.
Coach Marcel Koller strategically introduced more substitutions during the match to offer vital players a well-deserved rest, having effectively secured their passage to the group stage.
Looking ahead, the Red Devils are gearing up for a highly anticipated clash against arch-rivals Zamalek in the African Super Cup in Saudi Arabia on Friday.
Egyptian League trophy celebration
Following their triumph on the field, the Cairo giants were honoured during a remarkable ceremony hosted by the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) at the iconic Cairo International Stadium.
The festivities continued as Ahly basked in the glory of their historic 44th Egyptian Premier League title, which they clinched with two games to spare in the 2024 season last August.
The EFA, owing to a congested schedule, postponed the trophy presentation until this celebratory occasion.
This league triumph marked the culmination of a remarkable season for Ahly, during which they not only secured the Egyptian Super Cup and the CAF Champions League title but also claimed a bronze medal in the FIFA Club World Cup, underscoring their dominance on multiple fronts.
