The 34-year-old Tunisian international has been out of action for five months since undergoing surgery in May to repair a partial tear in the tendon, an injury he sustained in the Champions League final game against Esperance de Tunis.

In August, despite the injury, Ahly renewed Maaloul's contract for one year.

“I agreed with Maaloul that the current season is the last for him with Ahly," Ramadan told the club’s TV channel.

"Renewing Maaloul's contract this past summer was a gesture of appreciation for his achievements with the club,” he added.

Red Devils fans fell in love with Maaloul from the minute he joined the club in 2016.

The Tunisian star full-back played a pivotal role in many Ahly winsduring his eight-year career with the club, contributing 51 goals and 83 assists in 281 appearances.

He helped the team win four African Champions League titles, several domestic doubles, and three third-place in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.

All good!

Ramadan said placing Maaloul on the stand-in list for the current season was decided amicably with the player.

“We settled on not registering him in the official squad until he fully recovers," he expalined.

"Maaloul told us that he will return by November. When he becomes ready to play coach Marcel Koller will make the decision regarding his registration,” the sporting director added.
