Egypt can call up Ahly's suspended playmaker Mohamed Abou-Treika, the Red Devils' coach Hossam El-Badry said on Saturday.
Ahly banned the veteran playmaker for two months and fined him LE500,000 ($85,000) for skipping the team's Super Cup game against ENPPI, which they won 2-1 courtesy of a stoppage-time goal from forward Mohamed Nagy "Gedo."
Abou-Treika opted not to take part in the game to stand by Ahly's hardcore supporters (Ultras Ahlawy), who object to the resumption of domestic football activity until the perpetrators of an attack on fans in a Port Said, Egypt stadium are brought to justice. More than 74 died in attacks and in the panick that ensued as allegedly Masry (Port Said) fans rushed the pitch.
The Ahly star recently sat down with Egypt boss Bob Bradley to discuss the possibility of joining the Pharaohs' squad in next month's training camp in the United Arab Emirates.
"We welcome any Egypt call-up for Abou-Treika," coach El-Badry said on Ahly's official website.
"We do not mind him participating in friendlies with Egypt in the United Arab Emirates."
The seven-time African champions are set to play two friendlies against Iran and Tunisia on 12 and 16 October, respectively.
Ahly have also denied that Abou-Treika had received an offer to join Saudi side Al-Nasr, insisting that the player is an integral part of the Red Devils' squad.
"Abou-Treika will remain an Ahly player," asserted the club's football director Hady Khashaba.
