Zamalek's recently appointed Swiss coach, Christian Gross, was unable to secure a victory in his second game as Talae El-Geish thwarted the veteran tactician's return to the Whites with a 2-2 draw in the Egyptian League on Tuesday.

Gross, aged 70, commenced his second tenure with Zamalek with a thrilling 1-1 draw against Ceramica Cleopatra in a League game last week.

Despite Tuesday’s draw against Talae El-Geish, Zamalek temporarily top the Egyptian League table with 11 points on level with Masry who will take on Ahly on Thursday.

Nigerian forward Godwin Chika broke the deadlock in the 35th minute with a splendid finish inside the area, giving Talae El-Geish the lead.

Zamalek's midfielder Mohamed Shehata equalized just before halftime with a powerful strike from outside the box.

In the dying moments of the first half, Hossam Ashraf put Zamalek ahead with a sudden strike from distance.

Chika levelled the score ten minutes into the second half, capitalizing on a loose ball inside the box to slot it into the empty net.

In an attempt to turn the tide of the game, Zamalek's coach introduced Sief Jaziri and Mohamed Hamdi but Zamalek's quest for victory was thwarted by Talae El-Geish's resolute defense.

Gross had previously enjoyed a successful spell at Zamalek during the 2018/19 season, guiding them to their first CAF Confederation Cup triumph, a continental accolade they had been without for 16 years.

However, his tenure was abruptly cut short due to disagreements with the then-chairman, Mortada Mansour, regarding a contract extension.

Zamalek are set to face Ittihad of Alexandria on Sunday 29 December.
