Papavasiliou, 54, has guided the Mediterranean club since the start of the current season in seven games in the Egyptian Premier League, winning twice, drawing in three and losing three, leaving the club in 10th place.

The sacking of Papavasiliou, who previously coached Wadi Degla, Ghazl El-Mahalla and NBE clubs, came hours after the team's elimination from the Egypt Cup round of 32 in a 2-0 loss to second-tier Team FC on Sunday.

Talaat Youssef, 69, an Ittihad star in the 1970s, has been a free agent since resigning as Modern SC coach in mid-December.

This will be Youssef's seventh stint as a coach with his Alma Mater, having taken the helm on six previous occasions between 1999 and 2020.

Over the decades, the veteran tactician coached several Egyptian clubs, including Smouha, Talae El-Geish, Ittihad El-Shorta, Masry, Beni Suef Telephones and Petrojet.
