Currently perched at the top with 26 points, Ahly now hold a two-point lead over Pyramids FC, who are set to take on Smouha on Friday.
Emam Ashour ignited the match with a brilliant strike just 15 minutes into play, and January signing Nejc Gradisar continued his perfect start after scoring Ahly's second in the 68th minute.
Ahmed Farouk scored a late consolation goal for Petrojet but that wasn't enough to get anything out of this game.
A first half dominance
For the second game in a row, coach Marcel Koller opted for a 3-4-3 formation. The Red Devils imposed their rythym from kick off and Ashour capitalized on his team's domination with a curling kick from the edge of the area into the bottom corner of the net to grab his seventh goal of the season and move to the top of the scorers' chart.
He could have increased his tally on two occasions but his poort attempts were thwarted by Petrojet's keeper Omar Salah.
Hussein El Shahat and Mohamed "Afsha" Magdy came close from scoring on seperate occasions but they lacked precision in the final touch.
After the break, Petrojet pressed forward to get the equalizer leaving acres of spaces at the back.
In-form Ashour nearly missed the goal from the edge of the box and his narrow finish, after skipping past the keeper, was cleared by the last defender.
Koller to introduce young forward Mohamed Abdallah and midfielder Karim Walid to bolster the attack
Abdallah repaid his coach faith after finding Gradisar to tap home from point blank.
This marks Gradisar's third goal in as many match since his arrival last month.
Petrojet moved further up the pitch and second-half substitute Farouk rose above his marker to send a powerful header from inside the six yards but that was not more than a consolation goal.
Looking ahead, Ahly is gearing up to face Ghazl El-Mahalla in the upcoming 13th matchday of the Egyptian League scheduled for Tuesday.
