The project will feature a state-of-the-art 42,000-seat stadium, an innovative sports hospital, a sports museum, a leading university, a specialized sports school, and a hotel, a statement by Beltone Leasing and Factoring, a subsidiary of leading financial services provider Beltone Holding, read.
The project aims to enhance Egypt’s position on the global and regional sports map position.
The new stadium has been Ahly’s long-awaited dream and one of their main objectives for years. According to the club’s official website, the board approved the project's initial designs on Monday.
On 1 May 2021, the club board, headed by chairman Mahmoud El-Khatib, laid the cornerstone for the club's new stadium. At the time, the project was estimated to take five years to complete.
Ahly have used the state-owned Cairo International Stadium as their home venue for over six decades. However, security concerns forced them to abandon the small stadium they built in the early 20th century.
In December 2019, Ahly announced that they had secured a 25-year lease for Al-Salam Stadium, which they renamed Ahly Stadium. However, the team continued to hold high-profile matches at the 74,100-seater Cairo Stadium.
Ahly will announce further details during Friday's 2025 FIFA Club World Cup trophy ceremony.
