Masry announced the appointment of Tunisian coach Anis Boujelbene as their new manager on Monday, replacing Ali Maher who was sacked following a string of poor results.

Boujelbene, 47, has inked a one-and-a-half-year contract and will start his mission immediately.

"Today I will start a new experience in Egypt with great motivation with Masry FC," Boujelbene told Tunisia's Mosaique FM radio.

The Tunisian is familiar with the Egyptian Premier League, having played for Ahly from 2007 to 2009, winning seven trophies including the CAF Champions League and African Super Cup.

"I have wonderful memories in Egypt from my time with Ahly. I know the atmosphere well," he added.

Boujelbene began his coaching career in 2014 as an assistant at CS Sfaxien, before managing FC Hammamet, US Ben Guerdane, and CS Sfaxien again between 2020 and 2022.

He also coached AS Soliman and, most recently, ES Zarzis, leading them to 11 wins in 20 matches this season.

"I thank the ES Zarzis management for the time I spent with them, as we achieved good results, collecting 41 points from 21 games," Boujelbene said.

Masry parted ways with Maher on Sunday after a recent dip in form, winning only one of their last five games.

Despite this, they sit fifth in the Egyptian Premier League with 24 points, nine behind leaders Pyramids FC and Ahly.

Their latest result was a goalless draw against Ismaily.

Masry will play Smouha in the league on Thursday and face Tanzania's Simba in the Confederation Cup quarter-finals on 2 April.
