Making their debut at this stage after last season's group-stage exit, the Sky Blues have emerged as Egypt's new continental contenders.
Their dramatic quarter-final triumph over Morocco's FAR Rabat, sealed by a 4-1 first-leg masterclass in Cairo despite a 2-0 away defeat, highlighted their growing pedigree.
Founded in 2008 and rebranded in 2018, the club's rapid rise reflects their ambition to disrupt Africa's traditional hierarchy.
Under Croatian boss Krunoslav Jurcic, the Cairo-based side have adopted a high-pressing, possession-based style driven by technical midfielders and a dangerous attacking trio.
However, the Egyptian Premier League table-toppers are winless in their last three matches across all competitions, including a 2-0 loss to FAR Rabat, a 1-1 league draw with Ahly and a 2-0 loss to Haras El-Hodoud in the League Cup, raising some concerns about their current form.
Moreover, they face another setback as talented winger Ibrahim Adel will miss the match due to injury.
Despite recent results, coach Jurcic expressed confidence during the pre-game press conference. "I'm proud that my team has reached this stage," he stated.
"I urge the players to enjoy themselves and give their best to continue on their journey... We seek to develop and constantly be among the greats and compete for all tournaments. Despite the difference in continental experience between Orlando and Pyramids, my team will undoubtedly play a great match," the Croat added.
Meanwhile, opponents Orlando Pirates are making their first semi-final appearance since 2013. The South African giants aim to reclaim their standing among Africa's elite and secure a path to the final.
The Buccaneers' path involved a resilient and tactically disciplined performance, securing a hard-fought 1-0 aggregate victory over Algeria's MC Alger in the quarter-finals.
Under Spanish coach Jose Riveiro, Pirates have become known for their defensive solidity and potent counter-attacking threat.
With the second leg in Cairo next Friday, both sides aim to seize momentum ahead of a potential final against holders Ahly or Mamelodi Sundowns.
