Returning winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan believes Ahly will not be daunted by pressure when they begin their campaign in the first edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup later this month.

The African giants, drawn in Group A alongside Inter Miami, Palmeiras, and FC Porto, kick off the tournament against the American side on Sunday 15 June.

“Our group is tough and features very strong teams, but at Ahly we approach every match with one objective — to win,” Trezeguet told the club’s official website on Wednesday.

“I don’t believe we’ll be under pressure in the opening game. At Ahly, we are used to pressure and know how to manage it,” he added.

“There are many big stars in this tournament, but what sets Ahly apart is our collective spirit. For us, the team is the star, not an individual.”

The 30-year-old, returned to his boyhood club this summer after a decade-long spell abroad that included stints with Anderlecht, Aston Villa, Kasimpasa, Trabzonspor, İstanbul Başakşehir, and Qatar’s Al-Rayyan.

He said his return to Ahly was driven by personal conviction, not the Club World Cup.

“This tournament is huge, of course, but I came back to help the club where I was raised.

“I have previously played in the older format of this competition, in the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League, and even the World Cup with Egypt.

“My return isn’t about one event — it’s about giving back to the club that shaped me.”

Ahly made several high-profile signings this summer, including Tunisian midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane and the return of Malian international Aliou Dieng, alongside Trezeguet.

“With Ahly’s ambition to win every possible title, it’s only natural to build a squad capable of achieving those goals,” he said.

Trezeguet concluded with a message to the fans:

“I’m back home to give my best. I promise that I and my teammates will do everything we can to make our supporters proud.”
