Zamalek were held to a 0-0 draw by Arab Contractors on Saturday, failing to build on their 2-0 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra in last week’s opening match.

The Cairo-based side currently sit fourth in the league table with four points from two games.

Both teams struggled to create clear scoring chances during a cagey first half.

In the second half, Zamalek coach Yannick Ferrera made five substitutions 15 minutes after the restart, bringing on Seif Gaafar, Juan Alvina, Amr Nasser, Abdelhamid Maali and Nasser Mansi.

New Brazilian signing Juan Alvina showed glimpses of skill but was unable to trouble the visitors’ goal.

Arab Contractors coach Mohamed Mekki also made changes, introducing Mohamed Antar, Abdelrahman Akmal, and Mahmoud Abou-Gouda, but the visitors failed to convert their opportunities.

Their best chance came at the hour mark when Ibrahim El Kady powered a header from inside the six yards only to be denied by keeper Mohamed Sobhy.

However, Zamalek could have snatched a late winner but Mahmoud "El Wensh" Hamdi missed the goal after being found unmarked at the far post by a fine cross form Mohamed Shehata deep in injury time.

Zamalek will next face Modern Sport on Thursday, 21 August.
