The 24-year-old goalkeeper had joined Portimonense on a free transfer from Ahly this summer but did not make any appearances for the club.

According to his agent, Alaa was unable to secure the necessary work permit in Portugal.

Alaa’s new contract with Ahly will run until the end of the 2029 season.

The goalkeeper, a product of Ahly’s youth academy, impressed with Egypt's U-23 team during the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they finished fourth in the football competition.

Ahly are struggling to defend their title this season, having earned just six points from five matches, leaving them 15th in the league standings.

The Red Devils will face Ceramica Cleopatra on Friday.
