Despite the draw, Zamalek remain top of the table with 17 points from eight matches, two points ahead of second-placed Masry. Gouna move up to 14th with eight points.

Mohamed Emad canceled out Oday Dabbagh 27th minute opener to in the 84th minute as Gouna move up to 14th with eight points.

Playing without their inspirational winger Juan Alvina, who is serving a one-match automatic ban, the Whites lacked their spark upfront and could open the gap at the top.

The visitors had the first sight of goal when Madagascar striker Arnaud Randrianantenaina hit the crossbar with a firce shot from distance in the 15th minute.

Zamalek responded by dominating possession in the first half and Dabbagh converted a cross to give his side a lead midway through the first half.

They continued to press after the break in search of a second goal.

Veteran playmaker Abdalla El Saied nearly doubled the lead in the 72nd minute with a powerful effort, but Gouna goalkeeper Mohamed Alaa pulled off a fine save.

Zamalek coach Yannick Ferrera made several changes in the second half, introducing Chico Banza, Amr Nassr and Omar Gaber for Abdelhamid Maali, Oday Dabbagh and Salah Moussadak, respectively.

Gouna capitalised on a rare foray into the Zamalek penalty area late in the match, as Emad’s unleashed a powerful strike from inside the area to beat the goalkeeper and claim a precious point for the visitors.

Zamalek will face next arch-rivals Ahly in the Cairo derby on Monday.
