Egyptian side Pyramids FC clinched the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup title with a commanding 3-1 win over Saudi Arabia’s Ahli Jeddah on Tuesday, thanks to a sensational hat-trick from DR Congo striker Fiston Mayele.

The African Champions - who are making their debut in FIFA competitions - will next face the champions of the derby of the Americas, a fixture between Mexico’s Cruz Azul and a yet-to-be-confirmed South American opponent, scheduled for December.

A new milestone for the rising power in Egyptian and African football, who were reformed in 2018 and went on to claim their first Egypt Cup title in 2024, followed by the prestigious African Champions League in May, before making their way onto the international scene.

The game, held at a packed King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, saw Mayele open the scoring in the 21st minute. The Congolese forward latched onto a pass from Ibrahim Toure at the edge of the penalty area and finished with a low drive into the centre of the net.

Ahli Jeddah responded through Ivan Toney, who converted from the penalty spot to level the score, sending his effort to the right of goalkeeper Ahmed El Shenawy.

Mayele restored the lead for Pyramids FC in the 71st minute with a cool finish from inside the box following a brilliant low cross from in-form winger Mahmoud Zalaka.

Four minutes later, Mayele sealed his hat-trick with a superb third, slamming home a cross off the right post to put the result beyond doubt.

The win marked Pyramids FC’s first international title and ensured their progression in the global tournament, joining fellow Egyptian giants Ahly, who lifted the inaugural edition last season.
