Zamalek head coach Yannick Ferreira. Ahram.
Ahly came from behind to secure victory at Cairo Stadium, with substitute winger Hussein El-Shahat scoring the equalizer and winning the penalty that led to the winner.
“For sure, I’m frustrated with the defeat, but we have to concentrate on the coming games as we have tough fixtures,” Ferreira told reporters in the post-match news conference.
Responding to questions about his delayed substitutions, Ferreira said: “I saw no need to make substitutes, as we build our tactics around the starting lineup, and they were performing well.”
Despite the loss, Zamalek remain top of the table with 17 points, two ahead of Ahly, who have a game in hand.
Zamalek’s next game will be against Ghazl El-Mahalla on Saturday.
