Ahly interim coach Emad El-Nahass said attention to small details made the difference in his side’s 2-1 comeback win over rivals Zamalek in the Cairo derby on Monday.

Zamalek took the lead through defender Hossam Abdel-Meguid in the first half, but substitute winger Hussein El-Shahat turned the game around, scoring the equaliser and winning the penalty that sealed the victory.

“Small details decide big matches,” El-Nahass told reporters after the game.

“We changed our tactics multiple times during the game and succeeded in securing the win.”

El-Nahass praised his players’ character and discipline.

“The players were fully focused throughout the match and gave everything to complete the comeback,” he said.

“They delivered exactly what was expected.”

El-Nahass was appointed interim coach following the sacking of Spanish manager Jose Ribeiro last month.

Since then, he has led the team to three consecutive wins and a draw against Enppi.

The recent run of results has lifted Ahly from 15th place to third in the table on 15 points, two behind leaders Zamalek, who have played one match more.
