Masry snatched the league summit, Ahly continued revival, while Zamalek’s shaky performances continued

Ahram Online breaks down five key talking points from the round:

Masry snatch the summit

Recovering from last round’s 3-2 home defeat to Petrojet, in-form side Masry quickly restored the balance this round; beating NBE Club 1-0 to snatch the league summit again.

The Port Said-based club now lead the Egyptian Premier League table with 18 points, level with Zamalek and Al Ahly, who sit second and third respectively on goal difference.

Ahly continue fine run

Boosted by the morale 2-1 win over archrivals Zamalek in the Cairo derby last round, defending champions Ahly who still one game in hand continued their recent revival and secured another precious 4-2 win over newly-promoted side Kahrabaa Ismailia.

The Reds extend their winning run to four games to reconcile their fans after being under pressure for a long time following a series of poor results since the season start.

Zamalek retreat again

Zamalek fans’ high hopes of a strong season especially after the solid start of the competition dealt another blow after the derby loss as the team failed again to secure a win in the last three games.

The White Knights held to a 1-1 draw by Ghazl El-Mahalla on Saturday; losing the summit that they dominated for a while to Masry on goal difference.

The team’s chances to go far in the domestic competition became more difficult especially amid the stiff competition this season.

Bencharki, Ounajem face off as former teammates score in league clash

Former Wydad Casablanca teammates Achraf Bencharki and Mohamed Ounajem were on opposite sides on Saturday as they opened their scoring accounts for the season in an Egyptian Premier League game.

The Moroccan wingers, who also played together at Cairo giants Zamalek, both found the net as Bencharki’s Ahly defeated Ounajem’s Kahrabaa Ismailia 4-2.

Bencharki scored the Red Devils fourth goal with a superb free kick, while Ounajem had earlier netted the opener for the hosts.

Seven wins, Mohsen still leading scorer

The tenth round witnessed more competitive results with seven wins and just two draws, unlike last round that came with uninspiring four draws and five wins.

Despite failing to find the net against NBE Club, Masry’s striker Salah Mohsen NBE Club is still leading the competition’s top scorers’ chart with five goals.
